Canada Travel Activity (CanTRAC) Survey
WHAT IS THE CanTRAC SURVEY?
The Canada Travel Activity (CanTRAC) Survey collects information about the daily household travel activities of residents over the age of 16 in key Canadian cities. A greater understanding of when, where, why, and how Canadians travel will assist transportation authorities better estimate the future transportation needs of Canadian cities as they grow, and provide a greater understanding of how our mobility impacts climate change through GHG emission quantification.
Currently, CanTRAC is running in Calgary, AB; Lethbridge, AB; Charlottetown, PEI; & Moncton, NB.
WHAT IS INCLUDED IN PARTICIPATION?
Participation is entirely voluntary.
Your participation in the CanTRAC survey will include:

Obtaining consent from each adult household member (over the age of 18), or a parent/guardian to provide travel information for the research project.

Collecting travel information for a 24-hour period from each member of your household over the age of 16.

Completing the survey online - The CanTRAC survey must be completed by an adult member of the household.
WHY PARTICIPATE?
Your participation will:

Provide useful information about the travel habits of your community

Help evaluate mobility patterns across the region

Help inform future investments in transportation infrastructure and services
Upon completion of the survey, you will be eligible to enter to a gift card draw (for one $200 and ten $50 VISA gift cards) from participants in your region.
TYPES OF QUESTIONS YOU CAN EXPECT
Household
The number of household residents, status, and income, the number of vehicles and types, and electric vehicle preferences
Demographic
Respondent's age, education, and employment information
Weekday Travel
Departure and arrival time, destinations, reason for trips (e.g. work, school, etc.), mode of transportation
Remote work
Current and future remote work status, preferences, and typologies
CONFIDENTIALITY
Protecting your privacy is critical to the success of this survey. All information collected will be kept strictly confidential and only used to produce statistical summaries.

Your information, combined with that of other participating households, provides a general representation of your entire region. Demographic information provides additional details about your travel choices, which provides an insight into the future transportation infrastructure, programming, and investment needs.
